Barwon River height

The stretch of river that goes through Geelong and passes the Geelong Canoe Club (GCC) has been fluctuating. It is currently at moderate flood level - all on water activities are cancelled.

GCC is situated on land adjacent to the Barwon River with a ground floor level at an average of 3.90 Australian Height Datum (AHD). Some roads and paths leading to the GCC are below this level and if they are under water access to the club is not be possible.

To stay up to date with river heights visit the Bureau of Meteorology's website.

Barwon River closures - events and zoning

Barwon River is sometimes closed in sections for special events like rowing regattas, paddle marathons and water skiing.

These activities are managed by Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CCMA) as they are responsible for the 20km stretch of river that goes through Geelong including where Geelong Canoe Club is located.

The following are the listed closures for 2022 (current as at 29 October):

  • RV Schoolgirls Regatta: Saturday 3 December, 6:00am – 5:00pm

Information changes regularly. For the latest including zoning and closures, events and maps visit the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority's website - 'Public notices' and 'Barwon River Zoning 2021/22'.
